What will I be doing for the two weeks?
You’ll start off with an in-depth induction. Then you’ll join your first department and spend just under a week getting to know the ropes there. You’ll move to your second department for the second week. During this time you'll be fully exposed to the diverse range of work that we do.
You’ll be given real tasks, such as:
- attending client meetings
- helping with the drafting of documents
- attending legal seminars
- visiting clients, courts or other institutions which the firm is connected to
While in each department a current trainee or member of staff will be assigned to look after you, answer any queries and ensure that your time is being well spent. You’ll also receive a presentation from each department about the workings of their practice area. The idea is to give you as full a picture of the firm as possible in a short period of time.
Will there be a social element?
We like to think we’re a pretty sociable and welcoming bunch. So you should get a taste of the social life of the firm – the best way for everyone to get to know each other on a personal as well as professional level.
There will be:
- A welcome lunch with partners and staff
- Drinks with trainees already at the firm who will give you their account of life at Winckworth Sherwood
- Opportunities to meet socially with colleagues in your departments
Will I be assessed?
Yes. There will be an assessment day in the first week and a panel interview with partners from the firm at the end of the second week. Your work throughout the placement will be closely observed too.
Will I be paid?
We provide each successful applicant with £150 per week, which is intended to assist with expenses and living costs.
Will I be offered a Training Contract if I am successful?
There is absolutely no guarantee that you will be offered a Training Contract with the firm having taken part in the Vacation Scheme. However, the Scheme does allow us to get to know you well and plenty of students who have attended our Vacation Scheme have gone on to become trainees with the firm.
